SikhVotes builds software that helps Sikh Gurdwaras register their members and run fair elections. This policy explains exactly what our apps collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers our three apps:

SikhVotes Membership — registers Gurdwara members.
SikhVotes Check-In — verifies members at the door on election day.
SikhVotes Voting Booth — the iPad voting screen members use to cast a ballot.

Who controls your information

Each Gurdwara uses these apps to manage its own members and elections. The Gurdwara that registers you controls your information. SikhVotes provides the software and stores the data on that Gurdwara's behalf.

What we collect

When a Gurdwara volunteer registers you or checks you in, we collect:

The Voting Booth app does not collect personal information. It records that a ballot was cast for each position, and it does not link your ballot to your name.

How the camera and ID scanning work

Our apps use your device camera for one purpose: to read the barcode on an ID. The barcode is read on the device itself. We do not save photographs or images of your ID, and the image is not uploaded anywhere. We keep only the text needed to confirm membership.

What we do NOT do

How we use your information

Where your data is stored

Membership records are stored in your Gurdwara's secure records system, such as a private Google Sheets database kept for that Gurdwara. On election day, voting data is stored on a local server the Gurdwara runs on its own network during the election.

Who we share it with

We share your information only with the Gurdwara that registered you, and with the service providers we rely on to run the apps: Google for data storage, Twilio for sending the welcome text message after a member registers, and Apple for app delivery. We may disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell your information.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your Gurdwara keeps your membership record for as long as you are a member or as needed for its election records. You can ask to see, correct, or delete your information at any time. Because each Gurdwara controls its own records, the fastest way is to contact your Gurdwara's membership or election office. You can also email us at the address below and we will help you, or pass your request to the right Gurdwara.

Children

These apps are intended for adult Gurdwara members and are not directed at children. Members are registered in person by authorized Gurdwara volunteers.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will change the date at the top. Please check back from time to time.
